Tyre Hill Stables

Tyre Hill Stables is a family-run medium sized thoroughbred horse training stables set in 140 acres of glorious Cotswold countryside, at the foot of the spectacular Malvern Hills in Worcestershire.

The Andy Hobbs Years

Until recently it was run by trainer Andy Hobbs, and his wife Rachel. Andy’s whole life revolved around horses and he started his career in the sport in Devon working for David Barons at his Wotton Farm Stables in Kingsbridge.

Here Andy was lucky enough to have the chance to work with 1991 Grand National Winner Seagram, and Play School, winner of The Hennessey Gold Cup, The Welsh National and The Irish Gold Cup. Amongst many others.

He also worked with the Pipe’s for a spell before taking out a training license and having considerable success, with more than 50 winners under rules, before he decided to move into pointers.

The David Dennis Years:

However Andy then sold on Tyre Hill Stables and the lucky purchaser was former National Hunt jockey David Dennis. David treated the complex to a refurbishment, investing more than £1 million in the site and creating a state of the art facility with every facility and piece of equipment you would expect from a cutting edge thoroughbred racing stables.

In 2013, they hosted a large scale launch event which was attended by in excess of 750 people and which saw the Stables receive significant local and National Media coverage. Already, David has trained a number of top level winners at Tyre Hill Stables including Marju’s Quest which has won three races in succession as a three year old with 19 times consecutive Champion Jockey Tony McCoy in the saddle.

Today at Tyre Hill Stables you will find:

  • Gallops: three refurbished all weather gallops of three, four, and six furlongs in length respectively.
  • All-Weather Schooling Lane: Made of Polytrack, this is an ideal facility for horses to begin to learn to jump on.
  • Starting Stalls: Essential tool for training flat-runners.
  • Indoor School: Ideal for working with younger horses on jumping or for training in particularly inclement weather. The Indoor School also serves as a warm-up site before the horses head to the gallops.
  • Indoor Horse Walker: Again ideal for training in poor weather conditions, this horse walker can exercise five horses at a time and also serves as an excellent warm up exercise.
  • Equine Treadmill: This adds variety to training regimes and works different muscle groups.
  • Turnout Paddocks: More than 50 acres of paddocks for the horses to relax and recharge their batteries.
  • Equine Swimming Pool: Ideal for rehabilitation after injuries or for warming down after a training session.
  • Horse Solarium: Providing various therapeutic benefits such as improving circulation and relaxing tense muscles.
  • Weighing Scales: Weight is critical for racing horses and this allows weekly weigh-ins to enable dietary or training adjustments to be made.
